At what age can I take the lifeguard class?

If you are 15 years old by the time that the course is completed, you are able to take the lifeguard course. You must be 15 by the last day of class.

Is there a prequalification test?

Yes, there is a prequalification test that consists of:

  • Swimming 300 meters using the Freestyle/Crawl Stroke
  • Treading water without use of hands for 2 minutes
  • Timed brick retrieval in 1 minute and 30 seconds or less

Do I have to attend every date of the lifeguard class?

Yes, it is a requirement by the American Red Cross that you must attend EVERY class date.

Is there a test at the end of the lifeguard course?

Yes, there are two written exams and one in water skills test.

Do we learn CPR with the lifeguard course?

Yes, being certified as Lifeguard in ARC means that you are certified in CPR for Professional Rescuers.

Where can I find my certificate?

You can find your certificate in your email from ARC once the class has been submitted, otherwise you can also find it on the ARC website through the find my certificate program.
