Where to Get Emergency Financial Assistance

Army Emergency Relief (AER) helps active-duty Soldiers, retirees, Reserve and National Guard Soldiers on Title 10 orders, and their Families. Each request for assistance is unique and considered on an individual basis. 

AER often helps with expenses for things like: 

  • Emergency travel
  • Rent, mortgage, and utilities 
  • Essential car repairs (not covered under insurance)
  • Medical and dental expenses (not covered under insurance)
  • PCS Costs
  • Special needs medical equipment
  • Spouse relicensing/recertification
  • Childcare
  • Funeral costs
  • Food and basic needs


How To Apply for Assistance

Who Qualifies for Emergency Assistance?

  • Emergency financial assistance is available to:
  • Active-duty service members 
  • Retired military personnel 
  • Reserve and National Guard members on active orders for 30 days or more
  • Eligible Family members
  • Surviving spouses who have not remarried 

Army Emergency Relief is the U.S. Army's own nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating financial distress on the force. AER provides grants and zero-interest loans to Active Duty and Retired Soldiers and their Families. Over 4 million Soldiers supported since 1942.
